Skillshare: Making Songs at Home

Our regular Skillshares are opportunities to learn, meet new people, and discuss the resources and skills we can share in our communities. Free to attend and all are welcome.

Led by digital storyteller Jaya Gordon-Moore, this Skillshare explores how we can make music at home—providing advice and tips on music composition, recording and finding your sound.

Learn about free music software and approaches to get started in creating a song. Using her demo as an example, she will show you how to source loops to form a base for a beat and record your vocals. At the end of the workshop, there will be an opportunity for sharing and discussion.

Throughout lockdown, Jaya has been working with a group of young people during Primary's Sounds of the Lockdown project. She has supported them to amplify their voices through a range of activities focused on storytelling, such as sampling, spoken word poetry, and free writing.

The pandemic has restricted access to equipment and studios, but creatives have adapted the way they produce work. Skillshare: Making Songs at Home will show you how simple and easy it is to be creative at home. If you are interested in doing more activities, take a look at Making From Home, a series of inspiring activities, created by artists.

This event will take place online via Zoom, and live captioning is available. Please register here to receive the meeting information. Please email jade@weareprimary.org if you have any questions or to discuss access requirements.
