If lockdown was a rhythm, what would it be?

Primary is working with Mojatu FoundationFearless Youth Association (FYA), and FMB Radio on a new project, Sounds of Lockdown. A group of local young people aged 16-25 will take part in a series of sessions to produce a podcast or radio show focused on stories, thoughts, and reflections about the lockdown.

Led by digital storyteller Jaya Gordon-Moore and creative practitioner Parmjit Sagoo, the group will have the opportunity to amplify their voices through creativity and collaborate with other young people, both physically and online. The facilitators will deliver a range of activities focused on storytelling, such as sampling, spoken word poetry, free writing, drawing, and mark-making.

Sounds of the Lockdown provides a fun, restorative space for the group to build resilience, learn and share, and support each other's wellbeing. At the end of the project, the group will showcase their talents and their collaborative work on Primary and Mojatu’s digital platforms, and on FMB Radio.

Jaya Gordon-Moore works for Fearless Youth Association (FYA) across Nottingham as a social media manager and digital storyteller. She is passionate about race, gender, and mental health studies, and just finished her sociology degree at the University of Nottingham. In her spare time, she goes to protests to support causes she is passionate about; raps, sings and produces music; and enjoys performing across the UK.

Parmjit Sagoo has worked as a creative practitioner and community arts specialist for over 18 years, with extensive experience of working within a wide range of community, arts, and education settings. Her unique approach weaves together drama, story-making, story-telling, creative movement, conversation, and yoga. Through integrating these practices, Parmjit facilitates safe yet dynamic spaces, enabling exploration, imagination, collaboration, and connection. Parmjit investigates how these creative processes can become pathways to personal and collective transformation and wellbeing, constantly exploring the potential of the arts and yogic practices to heal, empower and build resilience.

Sounds of the Lockdown is part of the Making Place programme at Primary. This project is kindly supported by ChalleNGe Nottingham.
