Twelve primary residents and members open their studios to the public, offering a behind the scenes look at their creative practices and transforming Primary Open into a vibrant, community led exchange of ideas. The event celebrates the diverse range of artistic approaches within the Primary community.
We are home to over 50 diverse artists from a broad range of critically engaged visual arts practice alongside workshops including clay, weave, and design, outdoor and garden spaces, independent galleries, a bookshop, and the award-winning Small Food Collective.
In addition to open studios, visitors can explore exhibitions, attend an In Conversation with resident artist, enjoy food and drinks and meet the artists. It’s a chance to engage with the artistic community at Primary and begin or expand your own art collection.
This years participating Artists & Studios: Marek Tobolewski, Yelena Popova, Seán Cummins, Momoka Gomi, FromTheGroundUp Studio, Georgina Barney, Christine Stevens, Line Nilsen, Debra Swann, Craig Fisher, Mik Godley and Michael Forbes.
Highlights: Alongside open studios, residents will share unique projects, workshops, and experiences:
Christine Stevens: Clay studio showcasing ceramics
Momoka Gomi & Line Nilsen: Weave Studio, showcasing work and loom processes
FROMTHEGROUNDUP Studio: Presenting current projects & offering Ask the Architect
Marek Tobolewski: Curating the ‘Blue Building’ staircase
Artists conversation: Artists share their research and practice through informal talks in the Reading Room between at 4PM
Exhibitions: Explore exhibitions across gallery spaces.

Primary Open will be located across multiple spaces at Primary. Our ground-floor gallery spaces and studios which have full, level access from our main entrance on Seely Road. However, there is no step-free access to our first-floor spaces.
