Join Assunta and Lou, an artist mother and daughter duo, together with sculptor Ellie Barrett and her daughter Nora, for a hands-on family workshop sharing what they made and discovered during a week-long residency together at Primary.
Assunta and Lou have been collaborating for the past 6 years, layering drawing, painting and collage over digital prints. Two years ago they started sharing these methods with children and parents on their colourful blanket. Ellie and Nora's practice explores collecting, making and rearranging found natural objects and selected materials into new sculptural works. This way of working treats children not just as participants but as co-authors, raising real questions about what a child's perspective brings to the making process.
For this session, the two families come together to share their methods and the work that came out of their week in residency, inviting you to explore both traditional and digital media alongside natural materials, found objects, and open-ended, everyday materials.
We will be using a variety of art materials including watercolour, gouache, pastels, crayons, marker pens, aluminium foil, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, and natural and everyday materials collected during the residency. Dress for mess!
This workshop is suitable for children aged 3–11 and their parents/carers.
