Rebecca is a independent artist/musician, a member of artist collective Active Ingredient, an educator and a researcher. Her background is in music, with a focus on twentieth century and contemporary performance and compositional approaches and her practice is based on an exploration of interactions with sound and music. This work has taken the form of site-specific compositions and performances, installations, sound-based publications, or in exploratory participatory projects with schools and arts organisations and other artists. In the past, she produced a number of interventions and performances across the UK with the sometime ensemble and band, Los Grecos.
Recent work has included:
Great Chorus, a site-specific commission, for Fermynwoods Contemporary Art’s outdoor interventions project, Encounters alongside Graeme Miller and Jitish Kallat; being artist in residence as part of Sowing Seeds, East Midlands AiR programme, where she produced The Leaf Song, a collaborative publication with Mumbai artist Vidha Saumya.
As a member of Active Ingredient she supported the development and delivery of a British/Brazilian production, the touring digital installation, A Conversation Between Trees, which, through a series of artists residencies and public interventions visualized climate data. Project partners included scientists at the UK MET office and researchers and technologists from the University of Nottingham. Rebecca delivers participatory work alongside, including walks, artist talks, presentations and workshops as well as being engaged in a range of informal and formal educational settings to deliver creative sound and music courses. An additional part of her educational work is as a visiting lecturer with the University of Nottingham Music Department. Her research activities have focused on participatory approaches to examining involvement in the arts and have led her to undertake a number of evaluations for arts organizations or initiatives. Rebecca continues to assist in research at CFE, Leicester, leading participatory research with young people.
