Matt works as an artist, curator and educator is founded on a concern with the interrelationship of action and environment both physical and cultural. It centres on a critical discourse into the ways that we experience our environment and the hidden knowledges and practices of the spaces we inhabit. In particular he is concerned with the processes of mythology, and the way that our perception is shaped through the interaction of truths and fictions in terms of our spaces, selves and bodies.

This approach has been applied into a number of different contexts which cross and moves between art, architecture, performance, video and new media, and have been applied into education and consultancy situations too. One of the key elements of his work is the use of live practice to induce theoretical exploration and to feed that knowledge back into practice in the form of performance, exhibition or writing.
