Volunteer at Primary
Volunteering at Primary is a great way to gain experience of working with a contemporary art organisation, and we offer opportunities across the wide range of work that we do. As Primary is a charity, your time and support is invaluable to our artists, our programme, and the work we do in the local community.
From assisting artists to produce new work, installing exhibitions, and supporting public events and community projects; to gaining front-of-house and marketing experience, you can learn first hand the processes involved in running an artist-led venue and public programme. Through volunteering at Primary you will also have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of local, national and international artists.
You will work alongside our experienced staff team, and we are committed to supporting volunteers to get the most from their experience of working with Primary. Please use the application form to tell us about your existing skills, knowledge and experience and what you’re interested in learning.
The main tasks/areas that you can get involved with are:
- Public Programme: Assisting with research, supporting visiting artists, technical support, installing exhibitions, event management, documentation, front-of-house, assisting with off-site and community events.
- Studios & Artist Development: Assisting studio artists, working on artists’ development programme, building management and practical maintenance.
- Marketing & Administration: Assisting with mail-outs, press releases, social media and website, print copy, design and distribution.
