Gongfu Tea Ceremony & Bowl-Making
First session: Tuesday 29 January, 6.30-7.30pm, at August Moon Tea
Followed by three weekly sessions at Clay Studio Nottingham at Primary (dates and times to be arranged with the participants)
Final session: Tuesday 26 February at August Moon Tea
The Gongfu Tea & Bowl-making event is a very special experience which runs for five weekly sessions starting on Tuesday 29 January. This is a collaboration between Clay Studio Nottingham and August Moon Tea.
The first session is a traditional Chinese tea ceremony which is about mindfulness and well-being; a beautiful, relaxing and authentic ancient ritual, led by Estelle Liu at August Moon Tea. The next three weeks are spent in small evening sessions at the Clay Studio, led by Christine Stevens, during which we will make, decorate and fire the small tea bowls which are used in the ceremony (and which can also be used for antipasti, olives, nuts, preserves, etc.).
Participants need not have any prior throwing skills – the three sessions at the Clay Studio act as an introduction to throwing course, focused on a particular outcome.
The final session on Tuesday 26 February will be another tea ceremony using our own bowls, noticing which shapes work best and thinking about the aesthetics of the experience in a new way! This is a unique and gentle hands-on opportunity to participate in two ancient meditative crafts.
The whole experience costs £150 per person, which includes all five sessions, tea, refreshments, clay, and glazing and firing.
