Opportunity: Programme & Marketing Assistant
Post Graduate Placement with the University of Nottingham
*You must be a postgraduate student registered at The University of Nottingham for the duration of the placement*
This placement presents a great opportunity to gain experience working with a leading artist-run space that delivers an ambitious international contemporary art programmes. This placement will allow someone to learn first hand the processes involved with producing a varied arts programme, including marketing, communications, public events and exhibition production – from the practicalities of transporting art and installing it, to understanding the demands and requirements from the artists involved. You will be able to meet with a large variety of individuals from the artists themselves, to visiting arts professionals and general audiences.
You will work closely with the Curators Niki Russell and Rebecca Beinart, and Studio Manager Nastassja Simensky – whose experience includes running artist-run galleries; self-publishing; guest curating exhibitions; education and engagement programmes; working in commercial galleries, museums and public institutions and teaching. Previous interns have gone on to become curators, writers and museum professionals and have all valued their experience working with us.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual with a strong knowledge and awareness of contemporary visual art. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Knowledge of social media
- Good people skills with a friendly demeanour
- Experience of using an Apple Mac computer, with Microsoft Office programs and preferably Adobe programs such as inDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
- Ability to work independently and at times in a self-directed manner
- Willingness to work flexibly, including weekends
-General administration; updating mailing lists, document formatting, website updating
-Welcome desk – liaising with visitors and providing information
-Research: artists, press, contacts, suppliers and anything else that’s required
-Assisting with installation of exhibitions, from painting walls to handling delicate artworks
-Staffing events such as openings, performances and hospitality events
-Opening and closing the gallery
-Liaising with artists and responding to needs
-Marketing, in particular promoting activities through our social media channels, and uploading content to the our website
-Audience development and tracking audience figures and feedback
A key task during this period will be assisting with the creation and launch of our new website.

Other important information about this placement:
Placements are flexible and usually consist of a 200 hour project worked to fit around your studies over the course of several months.
Please note some weekend work will be required.
