Edwin Burdis, The Fruit Machine (2013)

Patrick Farmer, Lunchtime Tour
Friday 17 October, 13:00

Patrick Farmer leads this lunchtime tour of Edwin Burdis’ installation, offering a particular response to this new work and opening this up to further conversation.

Patrick will respond to the installation in a fashion that he feels befits the territory. After visiting Primary he began to take notes concerning objects, colours, and symmetries, pulling these out through observation and placing them into his notebook. His response will entail a fragmented and indeterminate approach, attempting to equivocate any number of the observations with sentences taken and then re-written, from books such as Maldoror by Comte de Lautréamont, The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, and Moderato Cantabile by Marguerite Duras. Patrick feels that this particular method of collage reflects the intensity and bricolage of Burdis’ work; a field of voices that, when spoken, blend and move into each other; who knows quite where they come from …

Patrick Farmer is an artist working with composition. He is a founder member of the Set Ensemble, co-founder of the Compost and Height label and is currently involved in the publication of his third book, ‘Yew Grotesque’.
