Field Broadcast present an improvisational series of broadcasts, beamed live to your desktop via the Caddy Life desktop app.  Broadcasting artists have developed work through an experimental residency hosted in the domestic context of PRIMARY House and a road trip exploring sites of transmission, networks and communication in rural Derbyshire.

The broadcast series has been devised collectively and will include individual artists’ works, improvisations and interruptions. To receive the broadcasts please download the Field Broadcast: Caddy Life software. Once installed the software will sit quietly on your desktop, waiting. When an artist makes a broadcast it will ‘ping’ and display the live video stream directly on your screen.

About Field Broadcast

Field Broadcast is a live broadcast project connecting artists, audiences and obscure locations through the portal of the computer desktop. Field Broadcast has developed through the practice of, and is run by, artists Rebecca Birch and Rob Smith.

Field Broadcast works with live digital broadcast as a medium, commissioning artists to make work specifically for this platform. Broadcasts are made from specific locations, in interaction with the surroundings, which becomes an actor within the work.

Field Broadcast send broadcasts directly to audiences’ computer desktops (outside of a web browser) through their Field Broadcast software. This method of transmission means that broadcasts arrive unannounced onto the viewer’s desktop. Each individual experience of the broadcast is unique, a montage of the Field Broadcast window with the personal clutter of a computer desktop: emails, chat windows, web browsers, wallpaper.
