Primary is delighted that Alex Pain will be showing works collectively titled ‘Atolls’ in our blue building project space during the World Event Young Artist. Alex’s sculptures all have architectural beginnings. Scale is abstracted and an edifice becomes a minute detail, skirting becomes a structural outline. His influences come from the use of building materials in modernist and contemporary architecture by architects such as Alvar Aalto, Jorn Utzon and Peter Zumthor. For WEYA at Primary the sculptures are a spread of plates, totems and supports rendered from a selection of rubble with architectural sources. In previous artworks the inherent nature of materials is challenged, not here, the materials are given new properties and stands to sit on or lean against. It is at the junction of materials and surfaces where the eye is most sensitive.

Open Saturday 8th – Saturday 15th September, 10am – 5pm (Closed Sundays)
